Whiskey Distilleries in the Scottish Isles

Whiskey DistilleryA tour of a working distillery is a fascinating experience. Not only can you learn but you’ll find yourself absorbed by the sights, sounds and smells that surround you and of course the best part of all the tasting of a “wee dram.”!!!

The Scottish Isles have numerous distilleries. The island of Islay, just 1 hr’s travelling distance from Ballycastle, Northern Ireland has seven alone. Whether it’s a school trip or just a day out, one of these trips is highly recommended.

Wildlife voyages along Strangford Lough

Strangford Lough has been designated as an area of special scientific interest due to the enormous diversity of wildlife to be found in this area. Located on Ireland’s N.E coast, Strangford Lough is one of Ireland’s most picturesque areas.

It has more than 2,000 species of marine animals making it one of Europe’s most diverse marine life resources. The lough is home to many species of wildlife and in Winter the lough is covered by many migrating birds including Brent Geese.

Carlingford LoughCarlingford, the peninsula’s capital is one of Ireland’s foremost Medieval towns – a place of narrow streets and castles, overshadowed by mountains and lapped by the sea.

The many historical buildings include The 12th Century King John’s Castle, the fortified Dominican abbey dating back from 1305, the Muit and the Tholsel, a medieval toll house, both dating from the 15th Century. The marina at Carlingford also boasts excellent views and restaurants.

Dublin’s Delights

Have a pint of Guinness or a shot of Whiskey in any of the capital’s traditional pubs where you are guaranteed to find the heart of Irish music.

Dublin is steeped in history. The city is over 1,000 years old and has a wealth of historically significant and fascinating sites to explore. Many of the towns and settlements that surround it are equally ancient.

Just outside Dublin, is Malahide which boasts a magnificent marina, extensive shopping and a reputation as the Gourmet capital of the East coast. So whether it’s shopping, rugby at Lansdowne Road or just a day’s craic, Dublin is not to be missed.

Lunch and a piper in Portpatrick, Scotland

Portpatrick is a beautiful coastal town just south of Stranraer. They have everything from truck-pulling competitions to folk festivals.

Motor Sport on the Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is 33 miles long and 13 miles wide. Despite its size it hosts some of the best sporting events in the world.
